Why I Created Beauty for the Homebound: A New Path for Beauty Professionals

When I started Beauty for the Homebound, I wasn't trying to build something for myself - I was trying to build something better for all of us.

As someone who has worked in caregiving and understands the challenges of chronic illness, I've seen firsthand how hard it is for homebound individuals to access basic services like haircuts or nail care. But I've also seen how hard it is for the professionals who provide those services - especially in today's beauty industry.

The Salon Model is Broken

Let's be honest: it's almost impossible to make a living in a traditional salon anymore.

Hairdressers and nail technicians are often expected to give 40% to 60% of their income in commissions, chair rentals, or product fees. That's before taxes, before supplies, ad before the unpaid hours spent waiting for walk-ins or dealing with last-minute cancellations.

Many of these professionals are incredibly skilled, passionate, and hardworking. But they're stuck in a system that doesn't value their time or talent. And with rising costs, unpredictable schedules, and burnout on the rise, more and more are walking away from the industry altogether.

A Platform that Puts People First

Beauty for the Homebound is my answer to that problem.

We offer a flat $15/month subscription for beauty professionals. That's it. No commissions. No contracts. No hidden fees. You keep what you earn. You set your own rates. You choose your clients.

This model gives professionals the freedom to work on their own terms - whether that means building a full-time mobile business or picking up a few extra clients a week to supplement their income.

It also opens the door to a deeply underserved market: people who are homebound due to age, illness, or disability. These clients aren't just looking for a haircut - they're looking for connection, dignity, and care. And the professionals who serve them aren't just doing a job - they're making a difference.

Helping the Helpers

This platform is personal for me. I know what it's like to judge caregiving, chronic illness, and financial stress. I know how isolating it can be when you can't leave the house. And I know how powerful it is to be seen, cared for, and beautiful - especially when life feels overwhelming.

That's why Beauty for the Homebound isn't just a business. It's a mission. It's about creating a community where everyone wins: where clients get the care they deserve, and professionals get the respect - and income - they've earned.

Let's Build Something Better

If you're a beauty professional who's tired of giving away half your paycheck, I invite you to join us. If you're someone who believes in dignity, independence, and fair pay, I invite you to support us. And if you're homebound and looking for care that comes to you, I invite you to reach out.

Together we can build something better. For ourselves. For each other. For the future of beauty.
