To Freelance Beauty Professionals - Why I Don't Charge Commission: A Heartfelt Choice for a Heartfelt Mission

In today's economy, where the cost of living continues to rise - from gas to groceries to the very supplies needed to provide services - it's easy to understand why many platforms take a cut from service providers. But Beauty for the Homebound was never meant to be just another platform. It's a mission, a movement, and a community built on compassion.
When I started this, I knew I wanted to do things differently. The services our subscribers offer - whether it's a haircut, a manicure or pedicure or facial - do more than meet a need. They uplift spirits. They brighten days. They remind our homebound neighbors that they are seen, valued and loved.
That's why I don't charge commission on the services provided. Instead, I ask for a modest monthly subscription fee. This helps keep the website running, make a humble salary and most importantly ensures I can keep clients coming to our subscribers. To ease the burden, I also offer the first two months free - giving new subscribers time to earn income before any fees begin. Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time, no strings attached.
This model isn't just about sustainability. It's about dignity. It's about creating a space where beauty professionals can thrive without being nickel and dimed, and where those receiving services feel the warmth of a community that truly cares.
In a world that often feels transactional, Beauty for the Homebound is a reminder that kindness, connection and purpose still matter. And that's something worth investing in - together.
